New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Independent Soul band Soulganic has released their third studio album, Didactic Interstice: Equilibria Vol. 1. The record follows the critically-acclaimed independent releases of the quartet's 2007 debut All Directions Forward and 2009's follow-up From the
Storm to the Sun.
Together since 2005, Soulganic - comprised of drummer/keyboardist Cory McClure, guitarist Ryan McKeithan, lead vocalist/bassist Anthony Rodriguez and percussionist
Lucas Torres - has garnered an underground reputation for crafting a brand of music dubbed Funky Indie Soul: an earthy, gritty, organic blend that liberally infuses Latin, jazz, blues and rock elements into the mix.
As with their last release, the band had a hand in every step of the process, with Didactic Interstice being written, composed, arranged, performed, produced, engineered, recorded and mixed by Soulganic. The record is built upon "the concept of space," says Rodriguez, "and letting the music breathe" - a collection of original songs that is sparse, yet full of soul and emotion. With lyrics touching on subjects as diverse as empowerment ("We Will Rise"), longing ("
Wildfire"), gratitude ("
This Gift"), passion ("Singular Vibe [Essence]"), voyeurism ("
Video"), self-deception ("The Story She Tells"), refugeeism ("Brother [Freedom Is Calling]"), emotional conflict ("On Again [Off Again]"), young love ("Returning to You"), and even PTSD ("
Homecoming"), through Didactic Interstice Soulganic continues to challenge the audience's perception of the human condition.
