NASHVILLE, TN. (Top40 Charts/ Webster PR) - Country Music Stars Connie Smith and Marty Stuart will participate in our nation's formal celebration of the holiday season appearing at The 2004 Christmas Pageant of Peace.

To kick off the pageant festivities, Smith and Stuart will attend and perform at The Christmas Pageant of Peace Opening Ceremonies and Gala Event scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, December 1 with a special reception beginning at 7:00PM followed by dinner at 8:00PM. The Christmas Pageant of Peace Gala event will take place at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel located on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC. Willard Scott will act as Master of Ceremonies in appropriate attire, dressed as Santa Clause.
Marty Stuart (accompanied by the Fabulous Superlatives) and his lovely wife Connie Smith will entertain guests. As a highlight of the show, Connie and Marty will partner to debut a song that they co-wrote entitled "Peaceful World." "It's always an honor to be asked to participate in an event of this magnitude. I'm a firm believer that music is a great healer and contributor to a world of peace. Connie and I both are honored to perform at the Pageant of Peace once again." — Marty Stuart (Stuart made his first appearance to perform at the gala event in December 1999).

The Lighting of the National Christmas Tree—which is free and open to the public—is an annual event scheduled for the following day, Thursday, December 2nd. Observing its 81st year of tradition, the ceremony will be staged outside on the Ellipse located directly across from the White House. President Woodrow Wilson began the tradition in 1913 to light the National Christmas Tree. Since then, the tree lighting ceremony by the President has signaled the start of the holiday season for all Americans. This ritual, The National Christmas Pageant of Peace, has grown in stature and is now witnessed by audiences all over the world. An extraordinary entertainment program will precede the tree lighting and a Christmas message will be delivered the President. Connie Smith will act as Mistress of Ceremonies during the tree lighting; her husband, and country music artist, Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives will perform once again.

Classical performer, Carl Tanner (internationally acclaimed American operatic tenor); pop performer, Kimberley Locke (of American Idol Fame) and Willard Scott (who appear as Santa) are also on the list of artists slated to appear that afternoon.
