New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Cassidy Turbin won two Grammy Awards for his engineering on Beck's latest album, Morning Phase, at the 57th annual Grammy Awards held on Sunday, February 8, in Los Angeles.
Cassidy, an accomplished percussionist and engineer, accepted awards in the categories of Best Album of the Year and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical), along with the rest of Beck's team. In the Album of the Year category, Morning Phase was up against Beyoncé's self-titled album, Ed Sheeran's X, Sam Smith's In the Lonely Hour and Pharrell Williams's G I R L.
"All of the of the nominees for Album of the Year are winners,"
Cassidy said. "The awards, that the record received, were well deserved by everyone who contributed to the record,"
Cassidy said. "Everyone who worked on the record is grateful to Beck for his unwavering vision, and we're honored to have been a part of this experience."
A well-known Los Angeles-based percussionist and engineer,
Cassidy considers drumming to be his core passion. At the age of 15, he attended The Collective(R) School of
Music in New York City. He is a graduate of the Musicians
Institute College of Contemporary
Music and holds an associate degree in Business Administration. Before being hired by Beck,
Cassidy worked at the award-winning Juniper Post Studios.
In 2009,
Cassidy was introduced to Beck. The two formed a tight professional relationship, and
Cassidy assumed various hats in each of Beck's projects: audio-engineering, programming for video game music, preparing sheet music for recording sessions and even setting up Beck's personal studios.
Cassidy considers his work during this period to be of vast influence on him professionally and personally. He says he is honored to have had the opportunity to help produce Morning Phase along with the rest of Beck's team.
Cassidy also received a TEC Award nomination for Outstanding Creative Achievement for a Studio Design Project for his engineering work on Beck's Morning Phase. At only 28 years old,
Cassidy has already contributed his engineering skills to dozens of notable albums and songs, including the White Stripes' Hardest Button to Button (Beck Remix),
Charlotte Gainsbourg's Stage Whisper (2012) and Terrible Angles EP (2011), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse soundtrack, The Haunted Man by Bat for Lashes (2012), and Dwight Yoakam's 21st Century Hits: Best of 2000-2012 (2013).
