New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Invaluable, the world's largest online live auction marketplace, today announced a partnership with Donley Auction Services to offer online bidding on the
Grateful Dead Family Jubilee Auction, taking place April 11 and 12, 2015. The auction features one of the largest private collections of
Grateful Dead memorabilia ever assembled, including more than 700 lots of rare
Grateful Dead artifacts contributed by former employees and friends of the band.
The two-day auction will start at 12:00pm CDT on both days of the sale. Bidders can view the full catalogs for Day 1 and Day 2 of the sale on Invaluable.com, and bid online in real-time during both days of the live auction. With the recent introduction of Invaluable's mobile apps for iPad and iPhone,
Grateful Dead fans can bid on the go and participate in the auction directly from their mobile device, in addition to bidding on the computer.
"The
Grateful Dead is one of the most iconic bands in American history, and we know that
Grateful Dead fans are extremely passionate about the band and their music," said Rob Weisberg, Invaluable CEO. "Music and entertainment memorabilia is extremely popular with our bidders, and the auction of this collection of historic
Grateful Dead artifacts is a great addition to the Invaluable platform."
The auction features collectibles spanning the entire career of the legendary band, including pieces of Jerry Garcia's original artwork, business documents, original Stanley Mouse and Rick Griffin artwork, previously unseen photographs, rare vintage posters, office furniture and more.
Headlining the auction is the original artwork by Stanley Mouse for the 1966 Golden Road to Unlimited Devotion
Grateful Dead Fan Club Poster, which is one of the founding pieces of the
Grateful Dead family history and perhaps the most historically significant item in the auction. Bidding on the piece will open at $420,000.
Additional noteworthy lots being offered as part of Day 1 of the sale, April 11, 2015, include Mickey Hart's Road Used Drum Set (estimated at $40,000), the only 1978
Grateful Dead in Egypt concert ticket known to exist (starting at $2,500), the "Skeleton and Roses" Hand Painted Original Silkscreen by Stanley Mouse from 1966 (estimated at $66,000) and a Stanley Mouse original "Whiskey Skeleton and Guitar" oil painting (estimated at $25,000).
Highlights of Day 2 of the sale, April 12, 2015, include the framed original lyrics to "He's Gone," hand-written by Robert Hunter (starting at $45,000), along with handwritten lyrics to "Fire on the Mountain" as scribed by Mickey Hart, with a hand-written set list on the back that several experts believe will prove to be written by Jerry Garcia (estimated to realize $50,000 - $80,000).
Also being offered on Day 2 of the auction are the
Grateful Dead Crew-Owned 1956 Chevy Bel Air Sedan used to transport band members from the 1970's to 1990's (starting at $8,000), the Grateful Dead's Approved Patent & Copyright Document from 1971 (estimated at $20,000 - $30,000), a rare 1990
Grateful Dead European Tour original oil painting by Rich Griffin (estimated at $100,000 - $150,000) and a Stanley Mouse Original Easy Rider oil painting on canvas (estimated at $20,000 - $30,000).
"The auction was scheduled well before the announcement of the 'Fare Thee Well' shows this summer at Soldier Field, but the timing for this auction couldn't be more perfect to celebrate the Grateful Dead's 50th anniversary," said Randy Donley of Donley Auction Services. "We're excited to be working with Invaluable to offer online bidding on this historic sale, and look forward to giving Invaluable's bidders around the world access to this incredible collection of
Grateful Dead items."
