Paul Combs' Pocket Big Band releases first CD - 'Live at Chit Chat' on Sea Breeze Records

CAMBRIDGE, MA (Sea Breeze Records/ www.paulcombs.com) - The Paul Comb's Pocket Big Band today announced the release of its first CD, 'Live at Chit Chat,' on Sea Breeze Records, a west coast label featuring mainstream jazz.

The CD was recorded at the Chit Chat Lounge in Haverhill, Massachusetts during two live performances in winter 2004. It is available for purchase at www.seabreezejazz.com; catalog number SEAB 3073.

Led by Paul Combs, music educator, composer and performance artist, the Pocket Big Band is a nine-piece jazz ensemble that has many of the orchestral qualities and power of a big band, while maintaining the musical intimacy of a small combo. The instrumentation features Combs playing alto sax and a collective of eight other Boston-area jazz musicians playing tenor sax, baritone sax, two trumpets, trombone, piano, bass and drums.

According to Combs, 'we are excited to release our first CD of the Pocket Big Band's recordings on the Sea Breeze Jazz label. From the time the band was formed in November 2001 through the present, we have developed a repertoire that reaches across the modern era of jazz. This is represented true-to-form on the band's 'Live at Chit Chat' CD.'

The Pocket Big Band will perform selections from its CD at the Chit Chat Lounge, 103 Washington Street, Haverhill, MA on Sunday December 5th from 6:00pm -10:00pm. The public is invited to attend the CD release party where copies of 'Live at Chit Chat' will be available for sale. Musicians performing on December 5th include Jim Cameron, Bob Coviello, Mark Gehret, Don Hemwall, Doug Leaffer, Paul Marcantonio, Wayne Mogul and Jim Pastore, under the direction of Paul Combs. The band will perform the arrangements of Fred Forney, Dan Higgins, Tom Kubis, Bob Pilkington, Willie Smith and Cliff Weeks, in addition to several compositions of Combs' own work.
