International Star Jose Feliciano Appearing At Common Ground On The Hill Roots Music & Arts Festival
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Common Ground on the Hill presents international star Jose Feliciano at its award-winning 19th Annual Roots Music & Arts Festival on July 9th & 10th, 2016, held at the historic 180 acre Carroll County Farm Museum in Westminster, Maryland. Feliciano's musical career includes 45 gold and platinum records, 9 Grammy Awards and a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. His "Feliz Navidad" is a classic Christmas pop song in the United States and throughout the world. Feliciano will be presented with the annual Robert H. Chambers Award for Excellence in the Traditional Arts. The award is named in honor of Robert H. Chambers, who, as President of Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) and as a Founding Director of Common Ground on the Hill, understood the innate power and potential of the traditional arts to help foster understanding among people of different cultures. Past recipients of the Award include such musical luminaries as Doc Watson, Etta Baker, Pete Seeger, Tom Paxton, Odetta, and Richie Havens.

Headliner Feliciano will appear on the mainstage at 7 PM on Saturday, July 9th. Woodstock's Professor Louie & the Crowmatix with the Maryland Rock of Ages Horns will headline on Sunday at 4 PM. Common Ground on the Hill's Music & Arts Festival is a roots music and arts festival for all ages, celebrating the "common ground" found in traditional arts.

The two-day festival is held in tandem with the 22nd annual week-long Common Ground on the Hill Traditions Weeks held at McDaniel College, attracting participants of all ages from around the world. Musical offerings are a virtual potpourri of ethnic genres, including blues, folk, bluegrass, Native American, Latino, Celtic, Appalachian old-time music & dance, Black Gospel, African drumming & dance, storytelling, poetry, performance art, juried arts & crafts, ethnic foods, a family world village, and more.

Each day the festival features over 50 world class performers making music, dancing, and storytelling on four stages, including the Pavilion Main Stage; the Jim Bienemann Memorial Stage; the Veterans Initiative Field Stage; and the Rose Garden stage.

Also featured at the festival will be Scotland's Paul McKenna Band, Celtic guitarist Robin Bullock, acoustic blues veteran Scott Ainslie, Scottish harper Wendy Stewart, American singer-songwriters Bob Lucas and Josh Hisle, Palestinian percussionist Tareq Rantisi, multi-instrumentalist Radim Zenkl from the Czech Republic, Americana string band Walt Michael & the New York Ensemble, Tucson troubadour Ted Ramirez, folk singers Sparky & Rhonda Rucker, story tellers Pun Plamondon and Sheila Arnold Jones, gospel and jazz songstress Shelley Ensor, old-time fiddlers Alan Jabbour and Earl White, world music singers & dancers Bill & Livia Vanaver, the alt-grass Eastman String Band and many more.

On Saturday, July 9th, the festival runs from 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM. At 9 PM, the festival spills out into the City of Westminster as Common Ground on the Town where jazz, Celtic, singer-songwriter, bluegrass and blues acts may be enjoyed in 5 restaurants and public spaces.

On Sunday, July 10th, the festival runs again from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM, with Professor Louie & the Crowmatix with the Maryland Rock of Ages Horns closing the festival starting at 4 PM.

Common Ground on the Hill is in its 22nd year. Although Common Ground on the Hill is a separate and distinct entity from the college, it is home-based in an office on the McDaniel College campus where the program's summer workshops and concerts are held. The Music & Arts Festival is held at the Carroll County Farm Museum (500 S. Center Street, Westminster, MD).

Driven by its mission to create community through the sharing of traditional arts, music, dance, and basic values, Common Ground on the Hill has been successful due to the dedication of the many community volunteers, the musicians and artists from around the world who teach and perform, and the many individuals and area businesses who contribute financial support. The organization is also funded, in part, by grants from The Maryland State Arts Council, the Carroll County Arts Council and private foundations.

The programs of Common Ground on the Hill have received wide regional coverage, and national attention as highlighted by Southern Living Magazine, the Charles Osgood files, Reader's Digest, and over the AP wires. The Common Ground on the Hill Roots Music & Arts Festival has been named a Top 5 Tourism Event by the Maryland State Board of Tourism.
