New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Elvis Costello has revealed his plans for two New York City shows this fall: the debut NYC date of his "
Detour" solo tour, Saturday, October 1, at the Town Hall, and a concert billed as "Imperial Bedroom & Other Chambers" on Sunday, November 6, at the Beacon Theatre, the first full
Elvis Costello and The Imposters date in NYC since 2011.
Costello has been on the road around the world for the last year and a half with the lauded "
Detour" tour, a solo performance that features his best known songs and selected favorites with just a piano and guitar, all in front of a giant television set projecting family photos, mysteries, mottos, and other mischief. The October 1 Town Hall show marks the first New York City stop of the "
Detour" tour and also features special guests Larkin Poe.
The November 6
Elvis Costello & The Imposters date is billed as "Imperial Bedroom & Other Chambers."
Costello will frame selections from 1982's "Imperial Bedroom" album with "the songs that led in and out of that velvet-trimmed playhouse."
Asked to elaborate on the show, Costello added, "You must have known by now that we wouldn't play this kind of show by anyone else's rules. You'll hear all the songs that fit the bill; hits and headlines, waifs and strays. In the words of the great Eric Morecambe, 'I am playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order.'"
Since 2002,
Elvis Costello has toured and recorded extensively with his band The Imposters, featuring bassist Davey Faragher along with original Attractions members, drummer Pete
Thomas and keyboardist Steve Nieve.
Fans who purchase tickets to both shows at the same time will receive a 10% discount.
