NEW YORK (Artemis Records) - Steve Earle, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, will be interviewed by Jonathan Demme, director of such acclaimed films as Philadelphia and The Silence of the Lambs, in a January 14 program at The New York Public Library. Demme recently directed the video for "Rich Man's War" from Earle's 2004 album The Revolution Starts...Now.
"Steve Earle is the great new American master singer and writer," said Demme. "More than any other popular artist he is tackling difficult subjects that reflect his view of today's social and political reality."
The program, which is co-sponsored by Artemis Records, will be held at 7 p.m. in the
Celeste Bartos Forum of the Library's Humanities and Social Sciences Library,
Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street.
Tickets are $10 general admission, $7 for Library members and are available at the door the night of the event or at www.nypl.org/humanities/pep. For more information about tickets, please call 212-930-0855.
Paul Holdengraber, the Library's Director of Public Programs, said " The conversation between these two accomplished, independently-minded creators, will undoubtedly delve into an exploration of how politics and current events infuse and influence artistic expression. It is an opportunity to gain perspective on what motivates artists to put forth their ideals and emotions while dealing with the challenge of maintaining balanced lives and careers."
Steve Earle is a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter whose career as a recording artist spans 25 years.
