New York, NY (Top40 Charts) "I think about my donor and others who have sacrificed so much for me every day of my life. Another man's heart beats in my chest. There are no words to adequately express my emotions. I am hoping people will feel my gratitude in my music," said Cardall.
Paul Cardall is literally a new creation after receiving a life changing heart transplant seven years ago on
September 9, 2009. Born with essentially half-a-functioning heart or single ventricle the musician was not expected to live but defied medical expectations after undergoing heart surgery his first day of life. As a teenager Cardall underwent other open heart surgeries which prolonged his life. Discovering he could play the piano by ear, Cardall turned to music as a way of expressing all he was experiencing. After establishing a successful music career with several Billboard charting albums, the artist was listed for a heart transplant. After waiting 385 days, according to local organ donor services sources, Cardall received a donor heart from a nineteen year old young man who took his life. The individual had registered to be an organ donor three months earlier.
"I think about my donor and others who have sacrificed so much for me every day of my life. Another man's heart beats in my chest. There are no words to adequately express my emotions. I am hoping people will feel my gratitude in my music," said Cardall.
Paul Cardall's A NEW CREATION explores a deeper level of spirituality, introducing lyrics and full orchestration into his catalogue for the first time. "Each song on this album is designed to invoke deep spiritual feelings," Cardall notes. "The album represents a journey from innocence at birth, through the ensuing brokenness of the human condition, culminating in mankind's ability to rise above that broken state to their full potential."
While some lyrics employ specifically Christian themes, the music is targeted to a universal audience. Cardall's music is enjoyed by fans in over 100 countries, where his music has received over 1 billion plays on streaming radio. "Regardless of their spiritual persuasion, listeners will feel a special connection to God through Paul's new album," notes album orchestral arranger Shane Mickelsen. "This music transcends languages and cultures to reach people at their deepest level of identity and yearning."
A personal highlight for Cardall was composing the music for "One by One," a song written with Elder
David A. Bednar, one of the global, governing apostles for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, of which Cardall is a member. Bednar, who penned the lyrics, has traveled to six continents during his decade of leadership, and the song reflects that appreciation for the unique challenges faced by individuals in each part of the world.
