NEW YORK (AP) - The final shortlist has been announced for America's first ever Shortlist Prize for Artistic Achievement in Music.

PJ Harvey, Gorillaz, Air and Dandy Warhols are amongst those nominated for the $10,000 prize to be awarded later this year.

The Shortlist, touted as America's answer to the Mercury Music Prize, strives to honour creative and ambitious albums, regardless of genre. Only albums released in the US after July 2000 that have sold fewer than 500,000 copies were eligible for nomination.
The final ten nominees were selected by a panel of 'Listmakers', which included journalists, producers and established artists like Beck, Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor and Mos Def.

Shortlist sponsor, Virgin Megastore has pledged to make a 'significant contribution', in the winner's name, to victims of the recent terrorist attacks in America.

Full details of Shortlist nominees are as follows:

PJ Harvey - Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea
Gorillaz - Gorillaz
Nikka Costa - Everybody Got Their Something
Air - 10,000 Hz Legend
Bilal - 1st Born Second
Dandy Warhols - Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia
Jay Dee - Welcome To Detroit
Ryan Adams - Heartbreaker
Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun
Talib Kwali & Hi-Tek - Reflection Eternal
