NEW YORK (Interscope Records) - Oh sure, Keane has captured UKhearts. Their debut CD, "Hopes and Fears," was the No 2 best selling record of 2004 in the UK. Brit writ biggies like Q and The Daily Mail named it Record of the Year. Hell, NME even went and compared them to Radiohead, which is tantamount to canonizing over there these days.

So here they come a-wooing, glowing accolades in tow. The latest honor - an invitation onto the storied stage of "Saturday Night Live." This Saturday Tim, Tom and Richard will endear themselves to a national television audience and maybe pause to play with host Paris Hilton's dog.

Those in TV land will not be wholly unsuspecting, as the word of Keane has spread. "Hopes and Fears" recently went gold stateside. Rolling Stone exclaimed, "'Hopes and Fears' contains more hooks than most pop groups manage in their careers." And The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, and many other U.S. mags plopped Keane in their Top 10 of '04 lists.
Keane just embarked on a sold-out trip through America. Those who've seen them know the demeanor on stage: just as the songs rise up into sunray-stitching gorgeousity, they seamlessly dip down to remind you that they're just girl-bewildered lads like you, well until they soar right up out of all those woes again, which is why you'll stick with them.

A few bouts with hype-skeptical people in places like Cleveland, OH, and Milwaukee, WI, will do nothing but toughen Keane's resolve to keep doing what they've been doing since their first single - bringing beauty to the bars, one 2,000 mile long melody at a time.
