
BRENTWOOD, TN. (Sparrow Records) - Nominations for the 36th Annual GMA
Music Awards ('Dove Awards') were announced in Nashville this week. Among the most-nominated EMI CMG artists are double-platinum rock band
Switchfoot and prolific new singer
Matthew West as well as Sanctus Real, Steven Curtis Chapman, Matt Redman, and Bethany Dillon.
Continuing the remarkable success of its breakthrough album, THE BEAUTIFUL LETDOWN, Switchfoot received five Dove Award nominations including Group of the Year, Artist of the Year, Rock/Contemporary Song ('Dare You To Move'), Short Form Video ('Dare You To Move'), and Long Form Video (SWITCHFOOT LIVE IN SAN DIEGO). The band's lead singer, Jonathan Foreman, also received three nominations for his songwriting, including two for Song of the Year ('Meant To Live,' 'Dare You To Move').
Debut singer/songwriter Matthew West, who spent two months at #1 with his first radio single, 'More,' received an impressive five nominations including Song of the Year ('More'), New Artist, Pop/Contemporary Song ('More'), Pop/Contemporary Album (HAPPY), and Recorded Music Packaging (HAPPY).
Sanctus Real, one of the most acclaimed artists in 2004, received four nominations, among them Modern Rock Song ('Alone'), Rock Song ('Everything About You'), and Modern Rock Album (FIGHT THE TIDE).
Steven Curtis Chapman, who has won more Dove Awards (47) than any other artist in Christian music history, received four nominations in a broad range of categories from Pop/Contemporary Album for his new Grammy nominated release, ALL THINGS NEW, to Special Event Album for his contribution to THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST: SONGS, as well as recognitions as a co-producer for the group Casting Crowns.
Worship artist Matt Redman received four nominations; three as a songwriter for Song of the Year ('Blessed Be Your Name'), Contemporary Gospel Song ('Undignified'), and Worship Song ('Blessed Be Your Name').
A testament to her commercial and critical success, 16 year-old newcomer Bethany Dillon has three major nominations including Female Vocalist, New Artist, and Pop/Contemporary Album (BETHANY DILLON).
Other multiple Dove Award nominees include David Crowder Band (Modern Rock Song – 'Revolutionary Love'; Rock/Contemporary Album – THE LIME CD), Passion's HYMNS ANCIENT & MODERN – LIVE SONGS OF OUR FAITH (Special Event Album, Recorded Music Packaging), and Delirious frontman Martin Smith for his co-writing work with Michael W. Smith.
Delirious received a Modern Rock Album nomination for WORLD SERVICE; Starfield is nominated in the Rock/Contemporary Album category for its self-titled debut; Chris Tomlin's ARRIVING and newsboys' devotion are both contenders for Praise & Worship Album; Tim Hughes' 'Here I Am To Worship' is nominated for Worship Song; Worship Together's HERE I AM TO WORSHIP FOR KIDS is a Children's Music Album nominee; Joe Nichols' 'Just A Closer Walk With Thee' from AMAZING GRACE 3 is nominated for Country Song; tobyMac's WELCOME TO DIVERSE CITY is nominated for Rap/Hip-Hop Album; IN THE NAME OF LOVE – ARTISTS UNITED FOR AFRICA is nominated for Special Event Album.
