New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The second song to be released from harpist, pianist, singer-songwriter Mikaela Davis' debut album 'Delivery' (Rounder/July 13) is out today. "Other Lover" is a floaty, twisty, exploration of a relationship gone sour with a tight groove and a dusting of psych, all held together with Mikaela's sparkling harp. Listen to it here:
Says Mikaela, "Other Lover was written about four years ago in Nashville with Konrad Snyder and Jeremy Lutito. As I recall, we only had a few hours to write before I continued on a tour. The song came together rather quickly, and my manager called all excited when he got the demo. At the time I wasn't sure I could pull off singing the song, but it's been a staple in my set ever since! We recorded a whole record together but it was shelved. Other Lover is the one track that made it to "Delivery." I'm so excited to finally share it with you!"
Mikaela crafts sweet and salty songs that straddle the lines of folk and funk, AM rock and 80s pop experimentation. 'Delivery' was produced by John Congleton (St. Vincent,
Future Islands,
Angel Olsen) and it's already been hailed by Uproxx as "a sonic and stunning 10-track, genre-bending record."
She is just wrapping up a month-long, sold out national tour with
Lake Street Dive and has previously toured with Bon Iver, San Fermin, the Punch Brothers, Watkins Family Hour, The Staves and more.
Mikaela has also announced her full band album release show at Baby's All Right in Brooklyn on July 26, along with a fall UK and European run. Full dates below.
