New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Singer-songwriter Marié Digby has released today her ten-song Pop Covers collection through all major online music stores and streaming outlets. The album of remakes was previously only made available on YouTube and to her Patreon subscribers, and they have already garnered several million combined YouTube plays.
Featuring tracks made popular by current pop icons including Drake, Rihanna,
Sam Smith and more, as well as a few classics from the likes of
Depeche Mode and Duran Duran, Digby's stripped-down piano-based recordings give these songs a fresh, easy-listening coffee-house vibe (full track listing is below).
"It's always fun for me to record my interpretations of current (and classic) popular songs and post them on YouTube," Digby says. "Some friends and fans have been asking if I could make them available on Spotify and Apple
Music as well, so I figured why not?"
Marié is no stranger to recording remakes that have gone viral - in 2007 she posted a similarly raw, un-produced acoustic cover of the
Rihanna hit "
Umbrella" which went on to garner over 22 million views and launch her 2008 Hollywood Records debut Unfold album.
On 'Pop Covers', she tackles another track made famous by
Rihanna - the 2012 smash "
Diamonds". "I recorded it live in one take, out in my backyard here in Los Angeles. If you listen carefully, you might hear an airplane fly overhead in the middle of the recording!"
Since her debut over a decade ago, Marié Digby has been prolific, with numerous releases showcasing a combination of lyrical chops and piano balladry that recall early
Ingrid Michaelson or
Sara Bareilles offerings, selling over 400,000 albums, reaching Gold status in Asia, and garnering over 120 million YouTube views and 27 million Spotify plays.
In February 2018, Marié released her Wildfire EP with producer/mixer Bryan Cook (Radiohead, Train, Five For Fighting) at the helm. The EP debuted at #4 on the iTunes Singer-Songwriter Albums Chart and tracks from the collection received support from tastemaker Non-Comm and AAA radio stations across the U.S.
Pop Covers serves as an anchor for a new, original single called "Safe" which she'll release in July as a duet with former "American Idol" and "
The Voice" contestant MacKenzie Bourg.
