New York, NY (Top40 Charts) NFL superstar and BBC sports pundit, Osi Umenyiora, is teaming up with his beauty queen wife, Leila Lopes, to out Beckham the Beckhams with the launch of their new, super cool record label The Uprise. The label will combine a sassy Brazilian-inspired street sound with UK grime, hip- hop, and the hottest Baile Funk underground music to fulfil their vision of a Motown-style brand which draws upon the talent of in-house writers and producers.
As only one of five British-born NFL players to have won a Superbowl, Osi's renowned love of American hip hop and his unrivalled work ethic are going to be tested to the limit as he and his wife, a former Miss Universe, are set to take on major label giants with their new enterprise. His wife, Leila Lopes of Angolan descent, fell in love with the hot, sexy Brazilian (Baile) Funk and Kuduro sound and decided to combine the genres with UK grime, thereby uniting two nations through the language of music.
As Osi explains, "The idea behind the label is to make uplifting, unique, meaningful music in this era where so much sounds the same. It's also to try and connect people from all different cultures and backgrounds because we understand music is universal."
Osi and Leila have already enlisted a roster of artists for their London-based record label including the likes of vocal sensation Grace Rhodes, underground star Andi McErnest and cutting edge producers, MikesPro and Zeeko, who were quick to sign on the dotted line after experiencing Osi and Leila's passion and streetwise vision. The first waves of signings underscore the record label's ambition to be a launch pad for emerging artists and they are aiming to release their first track by the end of the summer.
