NEW
YORK (ARTiFACT Official Website) - On February 8, 2005, STS9 released
ARTiFACT, their first studio album in five years, to a barrage of
commercial and critical success. The first official week of sales
propelled ARTiFACT into Billboard Magazine's Electronica Chart debuting
at #12.
"Tokyo," the first single off of ARTiFACT, has garnered
airplay at some of the most prestigious radio stations across the
country. STS9 have been steadily climbing CMJ's Top 200 chart for four
consecutive weeks, currently at #83. This week STS9 debuted on CMJ's
AAA chart at #30. ARTiFACT also charted 3 times on CMJ's RPM chart
(electronica, dance, down-tempo, IDM, etc.) peaking at #25.
52
non-commercial and college radio stations have given the record enough
airplay to see it debut on their top 30's. Of particular note are: KUOM
(Minneapolis, MS); KZSC (Santa Cruz, CA); WLUW (Chicago); KOTO
(Telluride, CO); KRCC (Colorado Springs, CO); WCBE (Columbus, OH); KDHX
(St. Louis); and the second largest non-comm in the country, WRAS
(Atlanta).
The nationally syndicated radio program Marketplace
(PRI and NPR stations) has also added STS9 to its rotation as well as
other tastemaker radio stations including, KCRW (Los Angeles), WXPN
(Philadelphia), KOOP/KVRX (Austin), WERS (Boston) and WRUV (Burlington,
VT).
STS9's mass appeal has even crossed the Pacific Ocean
shipping over 2200 units to Japan in the first week. ARTiFACT has
enjoyed a position on the Top 10 Charts in Tokyo's Shibuya Tower
Records for several weeks since its release on January 23, 2005.
For
years, the band has toured non-stop building a rabid and loyal fanbase
nationwide. Hot on the heels of the band's most successful touring year
ever, the band's 2005 tour has reaped even greater success with ticket
pre-sales at the highest levels in the band's 8-year career and
sold-out shows nationwide including Denver, two nights in Chicago, two
nights in New York, and Washington DC, among others.
The
ARTiFACT tour continues throughout the spring (see dates below) and
STS9 will be participating in this year's Bonnaroo Festival and as a
highlight at this year's Winter
Music Conference.
STS9's album
ARTiFACT and live show has garnered tremendous critical acclaim. XLR8R
coins STS9 as "one of the most intriguing, innovative outfits around."
Relix magazine raved about ARTiFACT by stating, "Songs shift and blur
like sand dunes, rising into gorgeously curved drifts, then softly
crumbling into their ghostly components. Given the album's wild,
seemingly infinite textures, it is surprisingly uncluttered and
focused... Dark synth tones mingle beside dream-white guitar chords,
tempos strut from disco to drum'n'bass...Artifact is a definitive
statement made entirely on its own terms." And, most notably, the Pitch
Weekly raved, "Don't wait until the end of the year for critics to tell
you that STS9's latest album, Artifact, ranks up there with
feed-your-head classics from Floyd and Radiohead."
Fans who
are temporarily satiated by ARTiFACT's lush layers can proceed to the
nearest tour date, as Drum! magazine urged, "You'll have to check out
Artifact for yourself to figure it out, or better yet, catch STS9 live
and bring a bandage for when your chin hits the floor."
