Maurissa Rose Announces Live Tribute To Phyllis Hyman
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The beloved R&B songstress, MAURISSA ROSE, has announced her live musical tribute to the beautiful, late jazz singer, PHYLLIS HYMAN.
Combine a heavy dose of soul, a dash of sexiness and a sprinkle of sultry, and you'll get the undeniably powerful voice of Maurissa Rose - who will grace the stage to give tribute to Phyllis Hyman, singing all of her classic songs. Adding to the excitement, she'll be performing 2 shows a night, backed by an all star band, all under the direction of saxophonist Dave McMurray.

MAURISSA ROSE will play Aretha's Jazz Cafe in the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, November 23rd, and Saturday, November 24th at 7 and 9pm each night.

Enjoy an intimate evening of jazz music, as MAURISSA ROSE promises to give you the ultimate night out. The set will draw from some of your favorite PHYLLIS HYMAN songs like Living All Alone, You Know How to Love Me, and Don't Wanna Change the World. Fans are not going to want to miss this night of good music and entertainment, listening and singing along to classic Phyllis Hyman hits.

Hyman was best known for her music during the late 1970s through the early 1990s. She also performed on Broadway in the musical based on the music of Duke Ellington, 'Sophisticated Ladies.' The musical earned her a Theatre World Award and a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical. The loss of this beautiful diva's talent has been immeasurable, but now we have the chance to re-live some amazing moments with the sound of her music performed by the powerhouse, Maurissa Ross and directed by the incomparable Dave McMurray.

About Maurissa Rose You may recognize Maurissa Rose's unmistakable voice from the magical duet she sang with R&B Motown recording artist, KEM on the hit single "If It's Love" on his "Intimacy" album. But Detroit's got talent, and this independent artist is a major force from the Motor City. Featured on Tyler Perry's "Madea's Family Reunion" movie soundtrack, her distinctive voice was showcased in one of the most memorable scenes in the movie with Boris Kodjoe.

Maurissa has shared the stage with a countless list of artists, including Anita Baker, Chaka Kahn, Will Downing, and David Sanborn. You've heard her in countless television and radio commercials for multinational brands ranging from Ford Motor Company and General Mills to Little Caesars Pizza and JC Penny. The voice you will hear on the 2018 Superbowl "The Voice Commercial" singing a top of Kelly Clarkston and the Choir is none other than Maurissa Rose. Her theatrical credits include "Smokey Joe's Café", "I Need a Man", "Amistad" directed by Tony Award winner George Faison, and T.J. Hemphil's " Mama's Got a Plan". Maurissa made her debut movie appearance in an Independent film "Project 313" in the role of Wanda, which premiered at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles.

This summer, she will release the highly anticipated album, "Love Is My Religion." The first single "Too Nice Today" aired on the Mildred Gaddis show with entertainment host Greg Dunmore on 102.7, Radio One and a tour schedule was announced early spring 2018.

About Dave McMurray Dave McMurray has cemented his reputation for versatility by playing with a vast array of musicians that include B.B. King, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Bonnie Raitt, Johnny Hallyday, Gladys Knight, Albert King, Nancy Wilson, KEM, Bootsy Collins, Herbie Hancock, Geri Allen, and Bob James. McMurray sounds as assured and inspired in a rock, R&B, funk, pop or folk setting as he does playing hard bop.

While making his way on Detroit's bustling music scene, McMurray played with the avant-garde jazz ensemble, Griot Galaxy, founded in 1972 by saxophonist Faruq Z. Bey. But McMurray's catholic taste in music opened the doors for him to explore beyond the realms of jazz. "Any music that I heard - and continue to hear - I can see myself playing it," McMurray asserts. "It could be rock, jazz, R&B, whatever." And that's a good explanation for his multifaceted career. Tickets are $35 on sale now at the Music Hall Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets, www.Ticketmaster.com or charge by phone at 800-745-3000.
