LOS ANGELES (Capitol Records) - You've gotta have friends – and, luckily for music fans, saxophonist
Dave Koz has plenty of talented ones! For the fourth straight year, Koz will crisscross the U.S. with a group of stellar smooth jazz musicians, taking his 'A Smooth Summer Night Tour' to more than 25 cities. This year's lineup features R&B vocalist Jeffrey Osborne, contemporary jazz guitarist
Marc Antoine and multi-instrumentalist Praful. The tour commences June 10th at the Reading Eagle Theater in Reading, PA and wraps up on August 21st at the Hollywood Bowl in Hollywood, CA.
Saxophonic, Koz's current album, was nominated for a Grammy and has spent over 75 weeks on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz chart. This week 'Let It Free,' the album's third single, moves into the No 1 position on the R&R Smooth Jazz Top 30 chart, marking Saxophonic's third consecutive No 1 single. The previous two singles, 'Honey-Dipped' and 'All I See Is You,' spent eight and 10 consecutive weeks respectively at No 1 on the same chart. 'All I See Is You' was the No 1 most-played song in 2004 at Smooth Jazz radio.
This coming fall, Koz will set sail on the first ever Dave Koz & Friends at Sea cruise, which will feature artists Marc Antoine, Patti Austin, David Benoit, Chris Botti, Jonathan Butler, George Duke, Jeff Golub, Jeffrey Osborne, Praful, Wayman Tisdale and Kirk Whalum as well as internationally renowned DJ Mark Gobulew. Koz, together with his friends and fans, will depart from San Diego, CA on November 5 on the Holland America Line m/s Oosterdam for a week-long cruise to the Mexican Riviera. Additional cruise information is available at www.davekozcruise.com.
Meanwhile, Koz is at work on two new albums: his next Capitol release, which is being produced by Phil Ramone (Rod Stewart, Frank Sinatra, Elton John), and Golden Slumbers II: A Father's Love, due out on Rendezvous Entertainment, an independent label Dave co-founded. The project is a follow-up to 2002's highly successful, Grammy-nominated Golden Slumbers lullaby album. Koz also continues to host a morning radio show on 'The Wave' in Los Angeles and a nationally syndicated weekly smooth jazz radio show.
