TORONTO, ON. (Astralwerks) - k-os is pleased to announce the dates to his long anticipated U.S tour in support of sophomore release Joyful Rebellion. The tour is set to kick off on April 9th in Chicago, IL and will make 10 stops throughout the U.S. The captivating k-os live show is an energetic full band experience that combines the music from Joyful Rebellion & highlights from debut album EXIT, sporadic freestyling and brief interludes of tributes to some of his influences. k-os and the band have been known to throw in bits of The Police, Bob Marley, The
Clash and more between songs.
k-os will be touring with Handsome Boy Modeling School (Prince Paul and Dan the Automator) on all dates. The tour will follow a high profile March 29th appearance on the Late Late Show with
Craig Ferguson, where k-os will be performing his latest single 'Crabbuckit' with his full band. At the end April, will be performing at the highly anticipated Coachella Festival in Indio, California with artists like The Chemical Brothers, Coldplay, Blackstar and Weezer.
Canada is quickly becoming a fertile breeding ground cutting-edge music and many Canadian artists are currently enjoying widespread fame throughout the United States. k-os is proud to carry the torch of Canada's burgeoning hip-hop scene to American soil. The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences recently honored k-os with 3 Juno Award nominations. The nominations include 'Single of the Year' for his current single 'Crabbuckit', 'Video of the Year' for 'B-Boy Stance' and 'Rap Recording of the Year' for sophomore album Joyful Rebellion. He is slated to perform LIVE at 34th Annual Juno Awards from Winnipeg. The Grammy's also recognized k-os, giving him a nod for his collaboration with the Chemical Brothers, the Single 'Get Yourself High,' which was up for 'Best Dance Recording.' Also impressive was k-os winning 'International Album of the Year' honors at The 2003 Source Awards for debut album Exit. This marked a watershed moment for contemporary hip hop. For once, music mattered more than where an emcee hailed from, and it proved that consumers hadn't lost their ability to discern real talent from media hype.
Since its release in late 2004, Joyful Rebellion has been a favorite among fans and critics alike. Billboard Magazine proclaimed him a 'visionary' and Suede Magazine announced "If k-os is what Canadian hip-hop's all about, get ready for an exodus to the great black North." Produced and written by k-os, Joyful Rebellion draws heavily from and seamlessly fuses together the full range of musical experience; from rap to jazz, rock and pop, blues and reggae, and everything in between. The album is a testament to his rare ability to harmonize and emcee, ignoring any creative straitjackets imposed on him by narrow rap or R&B categorizations.
