NASHVILLE, TN. (Winter Jam 2005 announcement) - Over 120,000 people showed up for the Winter Jam 2005 Tour making it the most successful in its 9-year history. Along with NewSong, the tour featured Toby Mac, TAIT, Building 429, Rachael Lampa, and Matthew West, who entertained audiences in 21 cities. Reuniting dcTalk's Toby Mac and Michael Tait, the two accomplished solo artists also shared the stage to perform a few dcTalk favorites.
Over 7500 decisions for Christ were made during the Winter Jam Tour and over 1500 children were sponsored through Would Vision's child sponsorship program.
"God has been doing amazing things this year. The camaraderie, mutual respect and shared vision among the artists has been awesome. Averaging over 6000 people a night, the crowds were electric and the response during the altar calls overwhelming and humbling. God showed up in a big way!" says NewSong's founding member, Eddie Carswell.
"We've seen increasing crowds each year with Winter Jam, but this year has exceeded our expectations. This year's lineup contained some of the most exciting and vital acts in our industry, for a price that people couldn't resist. Both the artists and audiences had a great time, and lives were transformed every night," says tour producer Troy VanLiere, of VanLiere-Wilcox.
NewSong recently recorded a new live worship album and DVD at their home church, First Baptist Church of Woodstock. The album, titled Rescue, will be released through Integrity Records on May 24th.
NewSong's annual Jam tour has become the largest attended Christian music tour in the industry, as a diverse lineup of artists such as the Newsboys, Rebecca St. James, Audio Adrenaline, Relient K and Toby Mac have toured with and realized the benefits of the multi-artist bill. The events consistently draw sizable crowds, some as large as 15,000. The 2004 Winter and Summer Jam dates drew over 130,000 people.
NewSong has released 13 albums and scored 17 number one songs. In January 2001, NewSong earned its first number one mainstream radio hit, when "The Christmas Shoes" topped Billboard's Jan. 6, 2001 AC Singles chart.
In 2002, CBS made the chart-topping song and NY Times' Bestselling book into a made-for-TV movie which was viewed by 17 million Americans on its first airing in 2002 and beat out its competition, "Titanic," in its second airing in 2003. Among numerous other accolades, NewSong has been nominated for a Grammy and is a Dove Award winning artist. Their new Integrity live worship album, Rescue, releases nationwide on May 24th.
