BURBANK, CA. (Warner Bros.) - Built To Spill, one of our generation's most endearing and enduring bands, have been recording their long-awaited new album in Portland, Oregon, and are just about to begin the mixing process. The yet-unnamed album, their first since 2001's universally acclaimed "Ancient Melodies Of The Future," is also their first self-produced effort for Warner Bros. Records.
September is the projected month of release. Also one of the most critically praised bands of our time,
Built To Spill remain one of the most innovative and influential: "Martsch's melodic invention and unpredictable yet graceful arrangements seldom disappoint. As many have noted, Martsch's high tenor and folkie melodies suggest Neil Young, but BTS merges guitar rambles and twangy sweetness in a way that Young and Crazy Horse never quite did," quoted Time Out NY.
Built To SpillThe Absolute Sound put it this way: "The fifties had Chuck Berry, the sixties Jimi Hendrix, the seventies Jimmy Page, and the eighties Eddie Van Halen - guitarists who marked their decades as their own. Still searching for a new air-guitar icon? Look no further. Martsch continues to floor listeners."
The Boise, Idaho-based quartet are so excited to preview the new material for fans that they have elected to tour well in advance of the album's release beginning next month. The tour will start in the Midwest, before traveling to eastern and southern states and will include three nights at New York City's Irving Plaza. In June and July, the band will head for the west coast. Built To Spill also plan to tour upon release of the new album later this year. Dates are listed below.
