New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Following on from 'I Spy, the single that is been on repeat for most people that have heard it, the 15-year-old emcee Oso Wavey Jay keeps the standard very high in long-awaited EP 'Schoolboy Jay'.
After dropping the huge 'Soulja' earlier this year which amassed over a 100K views in a matter of days, as well as 'Get By' featuring UKNWN creating more buzz, the hype around Jay's name soared. This, alongside a noteworthy Tim & Barry freestyle and a Mixtape
Madness 'Next Up' on the way, Oso Wavey continues to ascend to his spotlight in the UK rap scene, and at such a tender age. His unmatchable energy, distinctive flow and introspective lyrics at these early stages is a formula for greatness that can't be overlooked.
'I Spy', produced by the 14-year-old prodigy YK The Plug was the first single off the EP and with a
Radio 1 premiere with Toddla T, proves that the young guns aren't to be slept on. Arz and Jay, effortlessly spit over a dreamy instrumental, while subtly competing with one another as the tune goes on. The track was accompanied by a conceptual video, directed and produced by streetwear collective The Basement it was tinged with subtle animations and shows Jay and Arz completely on brand, inside a school where they spend most of their days.
'Schoolboy Jay' is an impressive body of work with Jay using a mixture of drill and dream-trap to tell a story of his life as a 15-year-old boy in school. Using subject matters to relate back to the classroom, such as huge tracks like 'Richter Scale Ultimate' and 'Long Day', Jay turns his dull day-to-day school-life into something worth listening to.
With his previous drops all making their own impact in such a saturated climate, there's no question that this EP is set to shake some feathers. At just 15 years of age there's signs of success that are so promising, sleep on Oso Wavey at your peril as this is only the beginning.
