New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Rhiannon Giddens and multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi begin a months-long tour of North America, Europe, and the UK with a performance at Alys Stephens Center in Birmingham, Alabama, on Thursday. The tour, featuring music from their album there is no Other, continues with concerts across North America, including Atlanta, Nashville, DC, Cambridge, New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Chicago, and more, into November. They head to the UK to tour in late November, including two concerts for the EFG London Jazz Festival, then to the Continent in December for shows in the Netherlands, Germany, France, and Turrisi's hometown of Turin, Italy. They return to the States in February for several Bay Area concerts, including a four-night residency at SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco. See below for details and tickets!
there is no Other, released on CD and digitally in May and in a special two-LP vinyl edition last week, was produced by Joe Henry and tracked over five days in Dublin. The album is at once a condemnation of "othering" and a celebration of the spread of ideas, connectivity, and shared experience. "This is acoustic roots music at its most glorious," exclaims Uncut, "and Giddens is fast becoming the genre's brightest star in the firmament." To pick up a copy of there is no Other, head to the Top40-Charts.com Store, iTunes, and Amazon, and listen on Spotify and Apple Music, and everywhere fine music can be found.
Giddens, Turrisi, and bassist Jason Sypher performed an NPR Tiny Desk Concert of songs from there is no Other and Giddens' previous album, Freedom Highway, which premiered earlier this week. You can watch it below:
