LOS ANGELES (Fixx Official Website) - England's The FIXX is one of the most innovative and unique bands to come out of the MTV-era. The group's lyrics and melodies are artistic statements of both darkness and light; aural soundscapes that are cerebral yet able to touch the heart. The FIXX's themes are complex, oft-times introspective and thought provoking, and yet their musical legacy has appealed to the masses with three No 1, five Top 5, a dozen Top 10 hits, countless soldout tours and millions of albums sold worldwide.
Renewed interest for The FIXX continues to grow, with a younger generation discovering their music and attending the band's live shows. The signature sound of The FIXX is instantly recognizable; songs like "One Thing Leads To Another" and "Saved By Zero" remain staples not just with 80's radio stations, but on modern rock formats that have helped break such new wave-inspired acts as
Franz Ferdinand and The Killers. The FIXX, with its original lineup of lead vocalist Cy Curnin, Jamie West-Oram on lead guitar, Rupert Greenall on keyboards and drummer Adam Woods still intact, hooked up with respected bass guitarist Gary Tibbs (Adam & The Ants, Roxy Music) at the end of 2001, rounding out the band's current incarnation.
Originating in London in 1980, Curnin, West-Oram, Greenall, and Woods first signed with MCA in 1981 and recorded their first album, 'Shuttered Room', in 1982, releasing the first of five albums that contain some of rock's most original and defining music of that decade. The album garnered two huge hits, "Red Skies" and "Stand Or Fall", eventually going Gold while spending over a year on the U.S. charts. In 1983, the band released 'Reach The Beach', which went
Double Platinum on the strength of two major radio hits, "One Thing Leads To Another" and "Saved By Zero", while an extensive North American tour opening for The
Police earned The FIXX both critical acclaim and fan applause for their captivating live show.
A "greatest hits" package entitled 'One Thing Leads To Another' has sold more than 2,000,000 copies since its release. The late 90's represented a continuation of the band's achievements with two CMC International Records releases, 1998's 'Elemental' and 1999's '1011 Woodland', as well as Hip-O/MCA Record's greatest hits retrospective entitled 'The Ultimate Fixx Collection'. All three albums reflect the old and the new; 'Elemental' an album which marks a new contemporary evolution in the history of the group, blending the familiar FIXX sound with an extremely fresh, modern feel and '1011 Woodland', an acoustic collection of the group's best-known songs.
'The Ultimate Fixx Collection' showcases the trademark Fixx sound – ethereal keyboards, inventive rhythm section, passionate vocals and shattering guitar work… a sound that has produced a variety of memorable hits that still remain significant today. It is their ability to be singularly unique and unmistakable that sets this band apart - proof positive being their 2004 release on Rainman Records, 'Want That Life.'
The dawning of the new millennium has seen The FIXX remain in the public eye. A dance remix of "One Thing Leads To Another" by famed producer Jellybean Benitez raced up the Billboard Dance charts, the 'Ultimate Fixx Collection' has been a steady seller, "Saved By Zero" and "One Thing Leads To Another" have been featured in major
National ad campaigns, and the band is gearing up for an extensive series of U.S. summer tour dates. The group's present material and dynamic live shows continue to prove that this is a group that continually forges new, groundbreaking musical horizons. The FIXX and their combination of classic hits and innovative new music remain a potent force both live and on record.
