LOS ANGELES (AP) - The pop-laden soundtrack to the Paramount Pictures/MTV Films movie "Orange County," due Dec. 18 from Columbia, will sport new singles from the
Offspring and Foo Fighters. The set, which arrives three weeks ahead of the film's Jan. 11 opening in U.S. theaters, is fleshed out with previously released tunes from Crazy Town, Lit, Social Distortion, Cake, Brian Wilson, and others.
The new
Offspring single is "Defy You," which is currently at No. 14 on Billboard's
Modern Rock Tracks chart and No. 19 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks survey. A video for the song debuts this week. Tomorrow (Dec. 12), MTV will air a "Making of the Video" special for Foo Fighters' "The One." Former Lemonhead
Jesse Peretz, who previously lensed the clip for the Foo's "Learn to Fly" and shared the best short form music video Grammy award for his efforts, was behind the camera.
The
Foo Fighters will support the soundtrack with a Jan. 10 appearance on "The Late Show With
David Letterman." Fans can also hear "
The One" via an audio stream at the band's official Web site. The group is well into recording its fourth studio album, due from RCA in mid-2002.
The first pressing of the soundtrack will come packaged with a limited-edition bonus disc with four songs by unnamed, "up-and-coming" artists, according to the label.
"Orange County" stars Colin Hanks ("
Get Over It") and Jack
Black (Tenacious D, "Shallow Hal") and also features appearances by Chevy Chase,
Kevin Kline, Lily Tomlin, and John Lithgow.
