LOS ANGELES (Switchfoot Official Website) - Proving that school really does rock, Switchfoot visited Rome High School in Rome, Georgia, this week to launch the 2005-06 Channel One 'In Concert' series sponsored by Verizon Wireless. Channel One televises news directly to almost eight million students in nearly 12,000 schools across the United States.

The special Switchfoot concert will air across Channel One's national network of member schools on November 16, and footage will be streamed online at ChannelOne.com. Switchfoot members also co-anchored the day's Channel One News broadcast which was filmed on the Rome High School grounds.

To be eligible for the Switchfoot concert, high school students nationwide were invited to TEXT the word BAND to 3339 on a Verizon Wireless phone or enter their school's name via the Channel One Web site.

The students at Rome High School are being recognized for their ongoing efforts to make a positive impact in their larger community. Their commendable endeavors have included blood drives, tsunami and hurricane relief, and a project supporting U.S. soldiers in Iraq.

'The students are pretty pumped up about it,' said Rome High School principal Tygar Evans about the Switchfoot appearance. 'It's something different that's going to be fun for our kids.'

Judy L. Harris, president & CEO of Channel One added, 'We strive to connect with teens on many different platforms, and in this case music is the connector. The 'In Concert' series is a unique way to reach students beyond the classroom and by joining Verizon Wireless, Switchfoot and Channel One, we stay committed to delivering content that empowers, gives a voice to and inspires teens to get involved in and beyond the high school campus.'
Previous 'In Concert' performers have included Jewel and Michelle Branch.

Switchfoot's current album, NOTHING IS SOUND, debuted at No 3 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart in September and has already been certified Gold for sales of more than 500,000 copies in the U.S. The project features the hit single and video, 'Stars,' and follows up 2003's THE BEAUTIFUL LETDOWN which has sold over 2.5 million copies to date and includes the Top 5 singles 'Meant To Live' and 'Dare You To Move.'
