TORONTO, (CTV Inc.; Bell Globemedia; Juno Awards) - International superstars Coldplay, Michael Buble and Nickelback have been confirmed to perform at The 2006 JUNO Awards, Canada's Music Awards, on April 2. The announcement was made today by CTV, Canada's Number One broadcaster, along with The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS). Coldplay, Buble and Nickelback are the first of many internationally-acclaimed acts to be announced to perform on The 2006 JUNO Awards, Canada's most-watched Canadian awards telecast. The 2006 JUNO Awards will be broadcast on CTV on Sunday, April 2, 2006 from Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Since 2002, CTV has broadcast The JUNO Awards from cities across Canada, including St. John's (2002), Ottawa (2003), Edmonton (2004) and last year in Winnipeg, when more than 5.7 million viewers tuned in to watch some part of the broadcast. Some of Canada's biggest musical exports have hosted the awards telecast, including Barenaked Ladies (2002), Shania Twain (2003) and Alanis Morissette (2004). A host(s) for The 2006 JUNO Awards will be announced soon. Nominations will be announced Feb. 15 in Toronto.

"These three world-class acts underscore how The 2006 JUNO Awards continues to grow in both prestige and popularity as Canada's pre-eminent awards broadcast," said Susanne Boyce, CTV's President of Programming and Chair of the CTV Media Group. "Wait until you see what else we have in store!"

"The JUNO Awards is one of the biggest musical events in North America," said Melanie Berry, President of CARAS. "Our celebration of the Canadian music industry and its talent continues to attract world-renowned artists to our stage. Today's announcement kicks off what promises to be the first of many exciting announcements to come."

Right from Coldplay's first single "Yellow" going to No. 1 at Rock Radio in Canada to their current No. 1 single "Talk," Canada has embraced this band. With concerts that sell out in a minute to police escorts at radio stations to the enthusiastic live audiences - the band is very well aware of their Canadian fans' devotion.
"Our Canadian fans are extraordinary - we love Canada!" said lead singer Chris Martin.

Coldplay's most recent globe-conquering release X&Y debuted at No. 1 in 32 countries, including Canada. The band is currently up for three Grammy Awards (they have previously won four) and also four Brit Awards. Coldplay is just beginning a second North American tour in support of X&Y and are thrilled that it includes a stop at The 2006 JUNO Awards in Halifax.

Since the February 2005 release of It's Time, 21st-century crooner and Canadian native Michael Buble has been on a whirlwind ride that has taken him on sold-out headlining tours to four different continents. In less than a year, It's Time has sold over four million copies worldwide while the Vancouver resident has solidified his status as one of the world's great entertainers. His recently-released DVD Caught In The Act captures all of the fun and spontaneity of Buble and his band in concert. His self-penned single, "Home" has the distinction of being the most-heard song on Canadian radio in 2005, reaching an audience estimated to exceed 382 million people. Buble's incredible year was capped by the announcement that It's Time has been honoured with a Grammy Award nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.

One of Canada's biggest musical exports, multi-platinum rock icons Nickelback have sold over 19 million records around the world to date. They've won seven JUNO Awards and have been nominated 13 times. In October of 2005, Alberta's Chad Kroeger, Ryan Peake, Mike Kroeger and Daniel Adair celebrated the release of their fourth major album, All The Right Reasons, with outstanding debuts at the top of both the Canadian SoundScan Top 200 Sales Chart and the Billboard Top 200 Sales Chart. Nickelback is a success story built on the road, on the radio and, above all, by great rock songs. With their all-inclusive approach and across-the-board appeal, they're destined to be a mainstay in the music industry for years to come.

Sponsors for The 2006 JUNO Awards include FACTOR, Canada's Private Radio Broadcasters and the Government of Canada through the Department of Canadian Heritage's "Canada Music Fund", Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the Province of Nova Scotia, the Halifax Regional Municipality, Events Halifax and Radio Starmaker Fund. Broadcast sponsors for the event are General Motors, Pantene Pro-V, Doritos and Nice 'n Easy.
