LONDON, UK (BBC/Radio1) - Gorillaz lead the way at this year's Brit Awards with six nominations, dotmusic can confirm.

Damon Albarn's virtual hip-hop collective were unveiled as the frontrunners for the coveted awards at Abbey Road Studios this afternoon. The band have been nominated for gongs in high-profile categories such as Best British Group, Best British Album and Best British Dance Act.

Dido, Robbie Williams, and Kylie Minogue were close behind with four nominations each, while Travis, the Strokes, Craig David, and So Solid Crew vie for three awards apiece. Sting will receive this year's Outstanding Contribution to British Music.

The awards will be held Feb. 20 at Earl's Court in London (will be broadcast the following evening in the U.K. by ITV1), and will include performances by Gorillaz, Dido, Minogue, the Strokes, Shaggy, Elton John with Jay Kay of Jamiroquai, and Mis-teeq.
