TLC's Left Eye Changes Name To Nina And Joins Death Row

NEW YORK (AP) - TLC member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes has joined Suge Knight's Tha Row Records, according to Tha Row spokesperson Jonathan Wolfson. "She is on Tha Row. Her solo album will be released soon," said Wolfson, of Brown, Wolf Public Relations.

The issue was also addressed recently in the news section of Tha Row's website: "Nina, formerly known as Left Eye, is now with us, and will be releasing her solo debut next year."

Lopes spoke about her forthcoming album at the 2000 American Society Of Composers And Performers (ASCAP) Pop Music Awards in Los Angeles. "I'm going to be working with No Doubt, Prince, Lil' Kim, Blaque, and some up-and-coming producers. We have a nice direction," she said at the time.

Lopes's album, originally titled Supernova, was scheduled to be released on Arista Records in August 2001. The album was rescheduled for October, and eventually put on hold. An advance version of the album was streamed online, and featured collaborations with late Death Row Records artist Tupac Shakur, who appeared on the song "Untouchable." Lopes's longtime beau Andre Rison, Carl Thomas, Da Brat, and Lopes's proteges Blaque were also featured on the early version.

The album's first single, "The Block Party," peaked at Number 21 on Billboard's Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart.

Wolfson could not confirm whether the record Lopes recorded for Arista would be released on Tha Row. Spokespersons from TLC's label Arista records did not respond to LAUNCH by press time.
