LOS ANGELES, CA (Virgin Records) - Multi-million-selling animated artists Gorillaz made history several times over at last night's 48th Annual Grammy Awards. In a live network TV first, Gorillaz 2D (vocals), Murdoc (bass), Noodle (guitar) and Russel (drums) opened the show playing live in eye-popping 3-D alongside multiple Grammy-winning legend Madonna, performing a medley of Feel Good Inc. from their chart-topping Demon Days and Madonna's current smash Hung Up. Reached for comment backstage at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Gorillaz drummer Russel commented, "I tell you, for me this whole thing has been really off the hook. Ms. Madonna, like us, has been experimenting with different styles since way back, so it makes perfect sense for us to get together like this. And the fact that my boys from De La Soul were in the mix too just makes the whole combination unbeatable." Gorillaz bass player Murdoc added, "And I'm a firm believer that if you're gonna try something new for the first time, it's probably best to have most of the world watching you. Just to give the occasion a little...er...extra fire, y'know. Keeps you on your toes." The groundbreaking audiovisual spectacle was preceded by Gorillaz winning Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for Feel Good Inc. Stay 'tooned (ha) for an announcement concerning a major Gorillaz musical event planned in the U.S. in the near future.
