BURBANK, CA (Warner Bros. Records) - Jaheim's current and third album, "
Ghetto Classics" (Divine Mill/Warner Bros. Records) has debuted at No 1 on Billboard's Top 200 chart with sales of 152,900. This marks Jaheim's third top 10 debut - following two previous RIAA Certified Platinum smashes "
Ghetto Love" (2001) and "
Still Ghetto" (2002).
With the highly anticipated "Ghetto Classics" (released 2/14/2006), Jaheim teamed up with Executive Producer and Divine Mill Records' label head, KayGee, once again to build on the success achieved with the previous two releases. The album also features production from Jaheim himself, along with Scott Storch and Bink (Beanie Sigel, Lil' Mo, Nas), while the single "Everytime I Think About Her" spotlights vocals from Jadakiss.
"Ghetto Classics" highlights the New Jersey native's trademark blend of soul, R&B and streetwise hip-hop on one of the most acclaimed albums of this musical season. "The gravelly voiced singer elevates the thug-love motif with soulful grooves and lyrics straight from the heart of urban everyman," raves Steve Jones in USA TODAY, while the New York Times' Kalefa Sanneh called the album, "beguiling... full of sleepy-voiced come-ons and old soul samples." Clover Hope in Billboard meanwhile draws attention to "Ghetto Classics'" "soulful cuts that are endearing yet aggressive..." and calls Jaheim, "One of the best at crafting meaty narratives."
Supporting the early buzz is a multi-million dollar national cross promotion with Verizon's Music On Demand campaign, which launched January 16th. Users of Verizon's Music On Demand are able to transfer the single, "Everytime I Think About Her," and other songs to their PC or over the air to their mobile phone. As a focused artist for the campaign, Jaheim TV spots will run through March on UPN, BET, MTV, MTV2, ESPN, Comedy Central and others.
BET celebrates Jaheim by making him the first official "Artist of the Month" on BET.com. The site is set to showcase interview and performance footage of Jaheim. Interview footage is viewable online now.
After a four-year wait, Jaheim delivers once again.
