Kelly Bowlin Band, recent winner of the 2006 Southern California
Music Awards held February 11, in Los Angeles has agreed to perform Sunday, April 23 at Anaheim Stadium. The band formed in 2002 and has continually received recognition throughout the Southland for its high energy, Alternative,
Roots Rock music style. During the past 2 years The
Kelly Bowlin Band has amassed a huge regional following performing with various greats such as Dwight Yoakam,
Buddy Guy, Charlie Daniels, Kansas,
Little Feat, Poco, The Blasters, Dave Mason, Cracker, and many more.
In addition to winning the 2006 Southern California Music Award for Best Classic Rock, the band also received the same honor at the 2006 Inland Empire Music Awards, and is currently nominated for it's third consecutive year for the Orange County Music Awards with a previous win for 'Best Roots Rock' in 2004.
Robert Kinsler, of The Orange County Register called the Band 'authentic and intoxicating' and 'one of the best bands making music in Southern California today.' John Roos, of the OC Weekly and The Los Angeles Times called the band 'Wonderfully Noisy' and 'a richly textured mix of rock, folk, country and bluegrass that sounds a little like the Band, Steve Earle, Ralph Stanley and even the Stones".
The Band is noted for its extensive use of Acoustic instruments such as the Octave Mandolin, Mandolin, Banjo, and Accordion, along with traditional rock textures that include screaming guitars, and pounding drums.
In 2004 the Band was featured on Los Angeles Powerhouse Rock Radio KLOS and has also been a staple on Indie and College Radio Stations throughout the US. The Kelly Bowlin Band has singed with Burnside Distribution, an independent nationwide distributor, which has been key in placeing the band's music in major retail outlets across the country ncluding WalMart, Tower Records, and Best Buy.
The Kelly Bowlin Band also signed a promotion deal with Coach House Records in 2005 and has released the two critically accalimed albums, Williamsburg and Dancing in a Hurricane. In March the band has gone back into the studio working on it's third album. The members include Kelly Bowlin (vocals, guitar and mandolin), Jim Moreland (drums), Chris DeJesus (bass), Russell Berkley (Keyboards), Dan Miller (guitar) and Bass Hamza (vocals).
