Hollywood, CA. (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame) -The newest inductees into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Blondie emerged as the one of the great pop icons of New York's celebrated late '70s new wave punk scene. The original Blondie was formed in 1974 by art student/guitarist Chris Stein and vocalist/songwriter Deborah Harry. Drummer Clem Burke and keyboard player Jimmy Destri joined in 1975. The band played the fabled New York downtown circuit of CBGB's, Max's Kansas City and Mothers, amassing a major following before recording their first album Blondie in 1976. They followed that album with 1977's Plastic Letters which spawned the No 2 single in the U.K. "Denis." That summer the band set to work on their third studio album, Parallel Lines, with producer Mike Chapman. Released in 1978 and selling over 25 million copies worldwide, Parallel Lines produced the first ever No 1 record for Blondie in the U.S. with "Heart of Glass." The highly prolific group continued to release influential albums and singles such as Eat to the Beat, which was released in 1979 and was quickly certified platinum, and they climbed the U.S. charts again, in 1980, with the hit single "Call Me" from the American Gigolo soundtrack. Autoamerican, also went platinum and produced the No 1 smash "The Tide Is High" while The Hunter, released in 1982, included the single "Island of Lost Souls," their final U.S. hit before Chris fell ill and the group disbanded. After 16 years apart Blondie reformed in 1999 and released their seventh studio album No Exit that reached No 1 in 14 different countries on the success of the single "Maria". They returned again in 2004 with the release of The Curse of Blondie. Blondie most recently released their Live By Request CD/DVD in 2004 and their Greatest Hits: Sound and Vision CD/DVD in March of 2006. Blondie is currently on the road for the Road Rage Tour 2006 presented by VH1 Classic. For more information on Blondie please visit www.blondie.net.
