AUSTIN, TEXAS (Top40 Charts) - Now in its 21st year and a South by Southwest music conference tradition, the Austin
Music Awards were held at the Austin
Music Hall in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday (March 13) where
Alien Love Child won over the competition with five awards.
The awards, the results of the Austin Chronicle's annual music poll, presented the blues-rock outfit with wins in categories for Band of the Year, Best Single ("Rain"), Best Bassist (Chris Maresh), Best Drummer (Bill Maddox), and Best Blues Act.
Close behind Alien Love Child with four awards each were Bob Schneider, who won seven awards in 2001 (allstar, March 15, 2001), including Musician of the Year and Best Male Vocalist; and Kissinger, which came out on top for Best Rock Band and Best Alternative/Punk Band, among others.
On a national scale, U2 received the award for Best Concert by a Touring Band. Performances at Wednesday's awards included Six Pence None the Richer, Spoon, and Asleep at the Wheel, among others.
