Access Hollywood with
Black Voices and AllHipHop.com and you have the hottest new Arts & Entertainment e-zine, The Urban Socialite. Urbansocialitemag.com is the brainchild of two of the hottest up and coming publicists on the entertainment scene; Enchanted PR president, Christal Jordan - Mims of Atlanta, GA and Echelon Entertainment president, Tavares Carney of Detroit, MI.
Jordan-Mims and Carney say they realized the uncovered niche in their field while pitching their clients to other media outlets. Besides being one of the most sought after publicists on the scene Jordan- Mims is also a published author and hip hop freelance writer. She says she realized the need for an outlet that celebrated every form of art for the urban audience. 'I write for several urban magazines that focus on music and many of my clients are hip hop artists, however I've worked in Public Relations for the past ten years and I've represented museums, non-profits, and organizations geared toward fashion and beauty. I've always seen a need for an on-line magazine that caters to every form of art, including of course hip hop and R&B,' says Jordan-Mims.
Tavares Carney is a journalist as well and is quickly becoming a go-to resource for connecting artists in the mid-West with the rest of the country. Located in Detroit, MI, Tavares has used her nationwide connections to begin to give Detroit artists a presence on the hip hop scene. 'I've had the idea for the e-zine for quite some time. Christal and I met at a music conference, and we each liked the way the other worked. I shared with her my vision, she added her spin and we ran with it,' says Carney.
V-103's Tosha Love featured as premiere 'Not Your Average Chick' Launching on July 1st the Urban Socialite's first issue highlights Tosha Love (V-103, Atlanta, GA) one of the most influential women in radio in the NYAC (not your average chic) section, along with Tachelle Wilkes, (Femixx.com) a trailblazer for female music producers, deejays and emcees in the 'She Bangs' section. 'Although the site is for everyone we felt a need to celebrate the accomplishments of female trendsetters in the industry,' Carney says. 'With 'She Bangs' and 'Not Your Average Chic' I think we have the opportunity to shine the light on some phenomenal women that are behind the scenes driving this business. We are very selective with our choices as we want them to be women others can emulate and learn from,' Carney continued. In addition to stories on Love and Wilkes, the first issue will highlight the much anticipated release of Lyfe Jennings sophomore album entitled, 'Phoenix', and the return of west coast's pride and joy, DPG along with articles on beauty, health, fitness, and fashion and of course gossip.
'I think the fact that we are both publicists and journalists means our perspective is a bit more objective than if we just wore one of those hats. We hope to be a resource for artists and organizations that otherwise may not get exposure. We also wanted to offer some versatility as far as media outlets. Most importantly we want to celebrate all forms of artistic _expression,' Jordan-Mims says.
In addition to showcasing artists, the Urban Socialite also boasts a forum section for viewers to become members, leave feedback and become a part of the Urban Socialite community.
