CHICAGO, IL. (Top40 Charts/ www.zeroship.com) - We in ZeroShip are looking for bass players and keyboardists for recording, touring and hopefully permanent membership.
We want musicians with:
a. Touring under their belt
b. Recording in professional settings and studios
c. 10 years or more playing the instrument
We take from many sources as diverse as Led Zeppelin, Miles Davis in the Bitches Brew days, At the Drive in, Pink Floyd, Yes and Jane's Addiction. Styles that we also integrate include World Music, Ambient, Fusion, Blues, Jazz and plain Rock and Roll.
Our ideal bassist will have a musical ear and playing abilities in the vein of greats such as John Paul Johns of Led Zeppelin, Flea on the first Mars Volta record (which doesn't include his slap-craziness for which he's famous), Chris Squire of Yes, or Roger Waters of Pink Floyd.
That of course doesn't mean that he (or she) has to have the writing talent of these rather timeless players, but when he adapts our bass lines or crafts his own he should be able to handle that caliber of material. We do have to be realistic, but you should still be a great bassist!
Any musician must be able to play tastefully or simplistically when needed, follow direction and handle criticism well. We also prefer someone that can improvise and who is able to improvise with more than one or two notes. That seems obvious, but you'd be surprised... Please know timing and how to play with a click. NO STARTERS please.
Please give a listen to what's available at the Myspace site here and contact us at [email protected]. We require samples and prefer photos from all interested musicians, unless you're a special case...
More details:
We are holding auditions. We are very focused with what we are doing. We need a bassist and a keyboardist that can play in the styles of bands such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, At the Drive In, Yes, Jane's Addiction, Fugazi or The Mars Volta's first record with Flea recording on it. We take from those bands but also look into many styles like World Music, wierd jazz like Miles Davis's Ilse of White and Bitche Brew (minus John McLaughlin), plus "Ambient textures."
We expect musicians to be easy to work with, to know and have a good foundation/skill of playing and being a musician in a band! A strong knowledge of theory is a must, and if you have a good ear, meaning *can hear the scale, root and key by ear* that would be a huge plus. We also need someone that can improvise and be able to be a part of the music, not just jamming over other parts. This may be a tall order, but it's what we need.
If you are still interested please contact us: [email protected]. We will need at least one playing sample and preferably a photo.
