Columbia, SC (Hootie & the Blowfish Official Website) - After spending the last year touring in support of their fifth studio album, Looking for Lucky, the South Carolina-based multi Grammy-winning quartet – Darius Rucker, Mark Bryan, Dean Felber, and Jim 'Soni' Sonefeld – will release a live album and live DVD Tuesday, August 8, 2006. LIVE in Charleston: The Homegrown Concert Event, is set for release on the band's own label, Sneaky Long Records, and will be distributed in North America through Welk Music Group and Santa Monica, CA based, Vanguard Records.

The Live DVD and CD, recorded in the band's hometown of Charleston, SC at the Family Circle Magazine Stadium, August 12, 2005 during their Annual Homegrown Concert Event, features interviews with the band and backstage antics. The LIVE in Charleston CD marks the first live album release for the band, while the DVD will be the first live release in eleven years, following Summer Camps with Trucks.

Every year many schools are forced to receive budget cuts that ultimately affect the quality of education each child receives. In 2003 the band members established an annual concert in their hometown as a way to help raise awareness to the needs of local school children in the community. Ticket holders were asked to bring school supplies to the concert that evening for the Homegrown Concert Event. The response was overwhelming, and the Charleston County School District children were the beneficiaries of a generous community effort. A 55-seat school bus was filled from front to back with school supplies, and following the concert those supplies were distributed to the schools and teachers who were in most need.

Knowing the positive effect this project had on kids and the community, the band wanted to continue the concert annually, as well as expand it into other markets of South and North Carolina. In 2004, the Homegrown Concert Series added Columbia, SC, Anderson, SC and Raleigh, NC to its list of markets, and successfully filled a school bus in each community with school supplies. To date, the band and their loyal fans have helped fill ten busloads of much needed supplies for the Carolinas. In 2005 their return to Charleston generated enough interest that the band filmed the special evening to produce LIVE in Charleston DVD and CD as part of the Homegrown Concert Series– releasing both products nationwide August 8, 2006.

In 2006 Hootie & the Blowfish expanded the concert series once more, picking up a total of eleven stops, kicking-off in Nashville, TN and then taking the band through Texas, South Carolina, Alabama, North Carolina, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Florida.

Hootie & the Blowfish formed during the late '80s at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Their heartfelt sound made a huge impact on the local frat parties and dive bar circuit. After word spread about their electrifying live show, the band signed to Atlantic Records and released Cracked Rear View in 1994. Their first big hit, 'Hold My Hand,' came in early 1995, and with each new single ('Let Her Cry,' 'Only Wanna Be With You,' and 'Time'), their success grew. Cracked Rear View earned the band many awards and remains the 12th best-selling album of all time. Subsequent releases include, Fairweather Johnson (1996), Musical Chairs (1998), Scattered, Smothered & Covered (2000), Hootie & the Blowfish (2003), and Best of Hootie & the Blowfish: 1993-2003 (2003), and Looking for Lucky (2005).
