Sydney, AU (EMI MUSIC AUSTRALIA) - Perth band The Sleepy Jackson, fronted by unique singer/songwriter/artist Luke Steele, have announced details of an Australian headline tour in support of the new album 'Personality One Was A Spider One Was A Bird.'
The tour will take in all states and kicks off
September 7 in Hobart leading through to Perth on
September 23.
It's a triumphant return for The Sleepy Jackson with Personality debuting at No 10 on the Australian Motorola ARIA Album Chart earlier this month. The album is already being heaped with critical praise both locally and internationally, where it's being released in the UK, North America, throughout Europe and South East Asia. The press includes 4 star reviews in Rolling Stone, Q, Mojo and Uncut. The band are just about to complete a run of UK and US tour dates which included amazing sold out shows at infamous venues such as the Scala in London, the Bowery Ballroom in New York and The Troubadour in Los Angeles.
The tour announcement ties in perfectly with the news that The Sleepy Jackson have just been nominated for the 6th J Award nomination of 2006 for 'Personality'. The band were in LA when it was announced but are said to be wrapped with the news.
And if that wasn't enough good news for one media release, the band release their new single 'Devil Was In My Yard' to radio and TV next week. The video was directed by Squareyed Films (Silverchair, The Living End, Missy Higgins, Bob Evans) and again confirms The Sleepy Jackson as one of this country's most unique and creative bands.

'Steele's never been one to hold back – from the band's self-titled EP onwards, he's always strived to do something about the average. Ambition has clearly taken hold on Personality, but fortunately the result is worth the effort.' Rolling Stone (Australia)
'Beach Boys harmonies, string-drenched melodies and, er, lots of born-again religious imagery. The perfect soundtrack to summer…' NME
'Steele's sonic scope is quite simply awesome and never more so than on first single 'God Lead Your Soul' – a divine blend of Burt Bacharach big band bombast and Mercury Rev's delicate melodies – while lyrically he continues to grapple with religion and temptation.'
