LOS ANGELES (Carbon Leaf Official Website) - Prior to their headlining concert at The Roxy in Hollywood, Vanguard recording artist Carbon Leaf will be doing a special live performance for the entire 5th grade—250 students—of Sheridan Street Elementary School in East Los Angeles as part of the ongoing work of "Rock the Classroom" on Tuesday, September 19 at 1:00pm. Founded as a way to teach students literacy by using music as a means of engagement, Rock the Classroom brings diverse professional musicians into public elementary schools to teach a hands-on, standards-based music program designed to support the core literacy program currently in use.

"This will be a unique opportunity for students to understand how the lessons of reading, writing and music directly relate to articulating their own ideas," shares Bradley Kesden, Executive Director of Rock the Classroom. "The fact that the students will be able to immediately engage the artists and even share their own creative voice with the band makes this event wholly unique. We are quite thankful for the generosity of Carbon Leaf in wanting to support our efforts of bridging music and academics."

"Having a band of the stature of Carbon Leaf interested in directly interacting with our students is a precious gift of time and demonstrates the commitment the band has to future generations," says Oida Nunn, a teacher who oversees Rock the Classroom programming at Sheridan. "Rock the Classroom is an extremely valuable part of our curriculum. It's an effective, supportive way to bring music and enrichment back to the classroom, which has been sorely missing."
In addition, Carbon Leaf is providing a pair of tickets for their Hollywood show and autographing material as part of an auction to raise funds for the continuing work of Rock the Classroom.

Carbon Leaf will start their tour by headlining The Roxy on Sept. 21st in support of their new album LOVE, LOSS, HOPE, REPEAT—the long-awaited follow-up to their 2004 label debut Indian Summer, and seventh album—now in stores nationwide and to be carried in all Starbucks retail locations beginning Oct. 3. Their 2004 Vanguard debut Indian Summer featured the Triple A Top 5 hit "Life Less Ordinary." The band performed the single on The Dr. Phil Show closing an episode about aspiring musicians trying to get their break in the entertainment industry.
Carbon Leaf is known for their non-stop touring, playing over 300 shows a year.
