Arctic Monkeys - Leave Before The Lights Come On

Sydney, AU. (EMI Music Australia) - And so it arrives. The squaring of the circle. The bookend single and final word on this first leg of what's been a complete head fuck of a journey. From playing the cellars to headline the festival stage it's been a roller coaster. And after a year of breaking records - for fastest selling debut album ever in the UK - and picking up the Nationwide Mercury Prize whilst on the other side of the world reaching number one here in Australia and playing to sold out shows, the band leave us temporarily with 'Leave Before The lights Come On' a new song not milked from the album but a fresh note to depart us before they leave us to make whatever sound comes next.

Thus the conclusion to the first testament.
This shall be the tune ringing in our heads as they return to the shadows. Imagine the metaphor. 2.30 in the club and the lights go up on the sweaty hordes. Every mucky, seedy pissed up horrible situation exposed for what it really is. The girl that looked like J-lo suddenly morphs into Jo Ugly! So in taking leave while the romance is alive and well and the kids still dance to the baselines, the narrator of the song and Arctic Monkeys retain what it is that brought them here in the first place.

Of course there exists the 'on the face of it' subject matter. Guy takes girl home. 99% of the population knows that one at some stage of their lives. It's that relation to the lyrics that probably made us want to listen in the first place. But the rivers run deeper on this one as I'm sure you can hear.

It's a banger and it's their best tune yet. Says me and I'm always right! Enjoy!
