Atlanta, Georgia (TALENTED TENTH MANAGEMENT) - As Hip-Hop has become such a profitable commodity, it seems harder for independent artists to break through to the mainstream audience. Payola runs rampant through the industry, and the artists with smaller budgets get swept under the rug. Marlo Frierson and Quinn Roberson, of Talented Tenth Management, have seen this first-hand. After years of ups and downs trying to promote their artists DarkWater, they came up with a seemingly simple solution, 'The Next to Blow' compilation.
"Essentially it's just a collaborative project of like-minded individuals from all over the country. We have independents that have worked with major artists, and most of these artists that we work with already have a significant following in their region or hometown," he explains. 'Instead of spending a few grand to create a mixtape of your artist, why not be featured on a compilation of fresh, new talent, and have each artist push the entire project. So we're all like one huge street marketing team. So if you're on the project, your music is being heard all over the country, without spending any money. We're not charging these artists, like mixtape dj's do it. It's all original music, but formatted like a mixtape...so we can sell it in stores, you still own your record, and everybody wins." It's being hosted by Brooklyn Cream Team member DJ Jasey Jase, who's also the mix show deejay for the Wendy Williams Experience, and 2004's deejay for the Justo Mixtape Awards.
"Once this compilation is dropped, the industry is gonna be shook," quotes Roberson. "You're not going to hear the talent we've got on any other cd...every track is banging. Not only hip-hop, but we've got r&b, and reggae. Come and get with the movement..."
The compilation features tracks from 4IZE, Big Floaty, Deep, Threat Boyz with Bun B, Dow Jones, Shaun Sluggs, R U Nutz, and more. "The Next to Blow" compilation will officially be released on September 26th, 2006. Talented Tenth Management is having a release party on that date at Club Fever, in Atlanta, GA. The compilation will be available for sale at www.talentedtenthmusic.com. You can contact TTM for retail purchase information, or to be featured on a future release.
