LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts) - Alejandro Sanz, who wowed American television audiences on the recent Grammy telecast, will bring all the charm and sophistication of his live performances to a special, limited engagement run of concerts called "ALEJANDRO SANZ - LIVE - USA 2002" beginning Friday June 21, in San Diego, and continuing to Los Angeles at the Greek Theatre (June 23), New York's famed Radio City Music Hall (June 27), and Miami's James Knight Center (June 30). Late last year, Sanz recorded and released his seventh album, ALEJANDRO SANZ - MTV UNPLUGGED. People Magazine named it Album of the Week and the Los Angeles Times wrote that the recordings "enhance the emotional impact of Sanz' songs, with their swirling crescendos and endlessly looping lyrics. They allow his gravelly voice to come through with some of the raw, rustic force of flamenco...." The album was a Greatest Gainer on Billboard's Heatseeker Chart, held the #l spot on the Latin Album Chart for several weeks and has been certified 5 times Platinum in Spain, Double Platinum in Argentina, Venezuela and Mexico, Platinum in Chile and Colombia and Gold in the USA and Brazil. Sanz's gift for nuanced songwriting and his raw and soulful vocals have made him one of the most popular performers in the world and Spain's top selling recording artist of all time, selling over l5 million albums worldwide and earning l00 Platinum awards. Sanz has been making tremendous headway in the U.S.
He led last year's Latin Grammys with four wins for his September 2000 release of El Alma Aire: Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
His February 2002 Grammy performance of "Quisiera Ser" with Destiny's Child was followed with solo appearances on the Tonight Show and Regis & Kelly.
