Andrea Arroyo was selected as the official artist of the 7th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, it was announced today by The Latin Recording Academy. Arroyo's artwork will be used as the official image for the world's premier Latin music event and will grace the cover of the 7th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards invitation, show tickets, poster, program book, and other important applications. Arroyo unveiled her artwork at the press conference announcing this year's Latin GRAMMY nominees today in New York.
"We are elated to announce Mrs. Andrea Arroyo as the official artist of the 7th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards," said Latin Recording Academy President Gabriel Abaroa. "Her unique exploration and expression of movement and music through rich colors and imagery are full of passion and energy, which best represents the spirit of the Latin GRAMMYs in New York. We are pleased to become a way to bring even more attention to such a talented and accomplished artist. We also acknowledge and appreciate the support of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office, NYC Big Events and the Department of Art and Cultural Affairs in helping us find the artist with the perfect vision and style to represent our show."
Arroyo is a Mexican-born, New York-based artist whose projects include studio work, public art and commissions. Her work is inspired in part by the Pre-Columbian and muralist art of Mexico. Arroyo's background as a dancer is evident in the fluid motions of her figures. Her award-winning artwork has been exhibited extensively in galleries and museums and is featured in more than 100 public and private collections in the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Europe and Japan.
Arroyo's public art experience includes commissions for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority of New York and the Percent for Art Program of New York. Additionally, her work has been reviewed extensively and featured in publications such as the New Yorker, New York Times, the Village Voice, and International Herald Tribune/France.
The 7th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will be held at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Nov. 2 and will be broadcast for the second year on the Univision Network at 8 p.m./7C.
