Los Angeles, CA (Brookes Company) - The Benedictine monks of England's Buckfast Abbey have long housed a tonic wine aptly called Buckfast. Potent and rich in flavor, the Buckfast tonic wine is, its slogan claims, 'good for your health.' A continent away, California houses its own version of Buckfast – a no nonsense rock n' roll band conceived in San Francisco in 2003. Founded by Bay Area native Vic Belonogoff (guitar), Boise transplant Rian Riddle (vocals) and Irishman Cormac Breslin (drums), this Buckfast is good for your spirit. Blending together their musical influences and life experiences, the band has created a strong dose of tonic rock that is at once moving and good for you. Under the guidance of renowned producer/ engineer Dave Schiffman (Audioslave, Red Hot Chili Peppers, System of A Down, The Mars Volta), Buckfast wrote and recorded "Turn," their first full-length album. During these studio sessions, the band also completed their line-up with the addition of bassist Beau Caldwell. "Turn" was released on August 8. With "Turn," Buckfast have captured their original blend of alternately aggressive yet melodic rock. Unafraid to explore the human condition, "Turn's" lyrics paint beautiful and hopeful musical portraits of life, love and loss. Each song gives listeners a rousing yet personal experience. It's an earnest, intimate songwriting skill rarely captured in a debut CD. Live, Buckfast maintains that closeness with their fans. Their high-octane performances still permit their rapidly growing audience to connect with the music. Their MySpace following includes fans from places as diverse as the Netherlands, Brazil and New Zealand, some who travel all the way around the world to Los Angeles to watch the band perform.
