Sydney, AU. (Universal
Music Australia) - What kind of band could lay claim to such a title? They'd have to be smart. They'd have to have style. They'd have to be the name behind some of the most brilliant pop songs in living memory. They'd have to be THE KILLERS.
BIG DAY OUT 2007 is buzzing about the arrival of the best band to come from anywhere, ever – THE KILLERS, and with Sydney BDO now incredibly sold out and Melbourne BDO hot on its tail, we are now pleased to announce THE KILLERS solo shows to take place in Sydney and Melbourne.
In selling 5 million copies of their debut album, Hot Fuss, and banging out a string of hits that put a spring into the indie step – Somebody Told Me, Mr. Brightside, Smile Like You Mean It and All These Things That I've Done – THE KILLERS quickly put themselves up there 'among pop's foremost practitioners' (The Observer, September 2006).
Now the Las Vegas foursome – singer Brandon Flowers, drummer Ronnie Vanucci, guitarist Dave Keuning and bassist Mark Stoermer – have moved on to Sam's Town, where their musical base of New Order, The Smiths and Pet Shop Boys meets its match in the uplifting Americana of The Boss.
"Springsteen touches on the American dream, and that's everybody's dream,' Brandon Flowers told MTV back in May. 'Most of the songs are about getting to that place, of making it to the promised land. And that idea runs through the record. It's very optimistic.'
Live, THE KILLERS are 'great showmen' with a 'flair for the dramatic'. And what about that essential festival ingredient – 'singalong potential'? The answer is clear – THE KILLERS have 'the edge'.
Their frontman, Flowers, is 'an altogether different, and very exciting, kind of rock star' (The Sun). He's 'knicker-wettingly debonair' with a 'supreme confidence that sees him do little on stage, while effortlessly commanding it'. And 'when he sings 'You've got a short skirt, I'm gonna look up'... people of both genders appear to orgasm' (NME).
As Flowers himself says: "I've learned that I really like playing in front of a lot of people. It's something I need and I just want it more now" (The Sun).
With their comeback single When You Were Young already one of the most-played songs on Australian radio, THE KILLERS are set to make this summer Down Under one of the hottest on record. 'People are just hungry for The Killers,' Flowers told The Sun. 'There's something about us that people like and I hope it stays.'
BIG DAY OUT 2007 is hungry – THE KILLERS will hit the spot.
