Nashville, Tennessee (aristomedia.com) - Eight-time World
Champion calf and steer roper, Roy Cooper, has selected the music of
Sonny Burgess to be included on the forthcoming DVD documenting his life and times. The DVD, entitled "Roping My Dreams: My Love, Passion, Body & Soul," will be released during the 2006 Wrangler
National Finals Rodeo (NFR) which will be held November 30-December 9, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
After seeing Sonny perform at several shows in the Fort Worth, Texas area this summer, Roy approached Sonny about including his music on the DVD. One song in particular - "Cowboy Cool" – had caught his attention. After having the opportunity to view some of Roy's game films, Sonny realized how perfectly the song matched Roy's legacy.
"To have a legendary cowboy like Roy Cooper even stand in the audience for a show is a rush," said Burgess. "But to have him then request my music for this project is a career highlight for me."
Sonny recently recorded "Cowboy Cool," which he co-wrote with Nashville songwriter, John Coggins, as a tribute to Roy's life and phenomenal roping legacy. The song will be included on the DVD as well as a future Sonny Burgess album.
Also making an appearance on the DVD is the legendary George Strait, a longtime friend and roping partner of Cooper's. Rodeo announcer Clem McSpadden, who has followed Roy's career since inception as a young boy, will narrate. Special appearances by other rodeo celebrities include three-time World Champion All Around Cowboy Trevor Brazile, NFR rodeo announcer Bob Tallman, former Dallas Cowboy football fullback and PRCA Steer Wrestler and Team Roper, Walt Garrison, six-time World Champion All Around Cowboy Larry Mahan. Cooper's parents and three boys that are following in their dad's boot steps as ropers will also appear in the DVD.
Roy Cooper, known as "Super Looper Roy Cooper" has a long list of accomplishments and awards including: World Champion Calf Roper (1976, 1980-1984), World Champion Steer Roper (1983), World Champion All Around Cowboy (1983), PRCA Champion Calf Roper (1976-78) and first rodeo cowboy to break the $2 million mark in career earnings.
Burgess and Cooper will be making appearances during the NFR to promote the DVD and sign autographs.
Sony Burgess recently released his third single "A Little Bit Stronger" from his current CD Stronger. The single is a powerful ballad co-written by Aaron Barker, a staple in supplying such artists as George Strait, Tracy Lawrence, Clay Walker and numerous other fellow Texas artists with top charting singles.
