TORONTO, Ca. (Top40 Charts) - R&B singer Glenn Lewis has been acquitted of charges stemming from a nightclub fight. Earlier today an Ontario Superior Court Judge said he believed that Lewis, whos legal name is Glen Ricketts, was acting in self-defence when he hit a bouncer with a mic at a Toronto nightclub. The singer had been charged with assault with a weapon and aggravated assault following an incident that took place after Lewis performed at the Guvernment nightclub back in 1998. The altercation apparently started when security noticed Lewis wearing a hat in the club, which has a strict no hats policy. Lewis claimed that as a performer, he had permission to wear his trademark hat and that he struck the bouncer out of fear because he was locked in a chokehold and couldnt breathe. Lewis said outside of the Court on University Avenue in Toronto: Ultimately they stated that the Crown couldnt prove that in fact it was not self defence," said Lewis. "I went from being so tense to just falling back in the chair [and saying] oh man, thank you God. Lewis also took the time to talk to his fans to say, "Thank you for being extremely supportive. People came to the court and sat in for as long as they could, because sometimes it gets a little drawn out in there. I was so thankful. When asked if he could describe how he felt in a song, the singer answered, James Brown, I Feel Good.
