NASHVILLE, Tenn. (M.C. Carpenter Fans Website) - Singer-songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter married contractor Timmy Smith in Virginia, a Sony Records spokeswoman said Thursday.

Carpenter, 44, known for hits including "Down at the Twist and Shout" and "Shut Up and Kiss Me," was wed on June 1 in Batesville, confirmed Anita Mandell of Sony Records. Guests included actress Sissy Spacek and musician Dave Matthews .
