Sydney, AU. (Top40 Charts/ EMI MUSIC Australia) - Silverchair have scored their first No 1 on the Australian singles charts in over a decade with today's chart topping debut of their new release "Straight Lines".

It's the group's third No 1 single in Australia (alongside 1995's "Tomorrow" and 1997's "Freak") and it's already been certified gold. Silverchair are now the only Australian band other than The Easybeats and The Seekers in the 1960s to have three No 1 singles.

In a sign of the changed times the internet has played an important part in spreading the word about this song with over 1,000,000 video views via the popular myspace.com website alone. The single has also received more Australian radio and tv airplay than any other song of Silverchair's career to date.

"Straight Lines" is the first taste of the trio's highly anticipated album YOUNG MODERN which hits stores on Saturday March 31.

Two days after that release tickets will go onsale for a handful of unusually intimate Australian gigs to help launch the disc. While the band has headlined major festivals like Homebake and Pyramid over the last year, the 'Young Modern Tour' will be the trio's first indoor concerts in their homeland for nearly four years.

Dates and venues for the brief "Young Modern Tour" are as follows and given the relatively intimate nature of these venues, tickets are expected to go quite quickly. Special guests on all shows will be acclaimed Sydney indie band Dappled Cities Fly

Friday 27 April - The Tivoli Brisbane (18+)
Tues 1 May- Metro Nightclub Melbourne (18+)
Fri 4 May- Thebarton Theatre Adelaide (Lic & AA)
Sun 6 May- Metropolis Fremantle (18+)
Wed 9 May- Enmore Theatre Sydney (Lic & AA)
Sat 12 May - Groovin The Moo Festival Maitland

Tickets for these shows go onsale to the general public at noon on April 2 (although the Maitland festival is already onsale).

If you want to experience Silverchair live before this tour you may want to check out a special live set to be broadcast on the Nova radio network from 6pm to 7pm on Sunday April 1 and/or the band's appearance later that same night on the premiere of network 10's new "Rove" TV show.

Alternatively, later in April you could visit the tiny NSW town of Cowra who last week won the right to stage an exclusive Silverchair show as part of Triple J's "One Night Stand" promotion.
