NASHVILLE, TN. (Top40 Charts/ Warner Bros. Records) - This summer, acclaimed singer-songwriter Lori McKenna will join the most successful concert tour in country music history,
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill's "Soul2Soul Tour 2007," as a special guest of the superstar couple.
The tour will give McGraw and Hill's legions of fans the opportunity to discover for themselves why country's First Couple is so enamored of McKenna - a plumber's wife and stay-at-home mother of five from the tiny town of Stoughton, MA, who was thrust into the limelight when Hill included three of McKenna's songs on her 2005 Number One album "Fireflies," including the poignant single "Stealing Kisses." On the Soul2Soul tour, McKenna will be showcasing material from her upcoming new CD "Unglamorous," which will be released on Warner Bros. Nashville and McGraw and noted Nashville producer Byron Gallimore's label, Stylesonic Records, on August 14th.
Produced by McGraw and Gallimore, "Unglamorous" is the work of an authentic artist whose "fearless musical snapshots lay bare the realities of small-town life while clinging to the hope of better days," as one Nashville reviewer put it. Traversing familiar domestic territory, McKenna writes about the complications of an uncomplicated life in songs like "Unglamorous," which lovingly depicts her family home's faded curtains, threadbare rugs, and crowded dinners at the kitchen table; "I Know You," about her husband Gene, whom she married at 19; and the bittersweet "Leaving This Life," about her mother, who died when McKenna was 6.
It was McKenna's intimate understanding and honest expression of the realities of domestic life that Hill, herself a wife and mother of three, responded to when she first heard McKenna's work back in 2004. "I don't remember ever being impacted by a songwriter the way I was with her," Hill says. "Her writing is masterful, with a pureness that is completely unaffected. The songs are such a great combination of depth and realness... there's just this indescribable collision of innocence and honesty in her writing."
McKenna, who describes herself as "just a housewife from Stoughton who likes to write songs," is excited to hit the road with McGraw and Hill. "I've only done limited touring because of my kids," she says. "I've only gone out two or three days at a time, tops. But now I have the kids prepped to be on a bus and touring all summer. They're all ready to go. I think it'll be a great way to spend the summer."
